Pierre François is the artist name of Peter Verhestraeten (°1969).

Looking at his childhood drawings, his talent was already noticeable, but at the time he wasn’t aware of his artistic aptitude. It wasn’t until 2017 that he picked up pencil and brush again. Because of his pronounced dyslexia he discovered that converting thoughts into images is something that comes very naturally to him. Using old photographs and imagery, he looks back on a recent past. He associates the 20th century with a distinct style and character which he distils and uses as the inspiration for his work. Painting is his way of communicating. He’s not a speaker or a writer. His work only comes to life fully during the interaction with the observer.
